UGADI Special Recipe for ‘Pachadi’

Ugadi is beginning of the New Year. Ugadi is one of the most auspicious days in Hindu Sanskriti. People start their day by taking God’s darshan. This is considered to be a very good day for purchasing new things. People decorate their homes with mango leaves and rangoli. Raw mango and neem leaves hold special importance on this day.
On Ugadi, people buy new earthen pot, put haldi-kumkum and tie mango, neem leaves to it. A special drink called ‘Ugadi Sharbat’ (Pachadi) is prepared in this pot. Sweet roti called ‘Bachalu’ and ‘Purnam’ are also the main items on Ugadi.

Recipe for ‘Pachadi’

Ingredients:
Tamrind: 50 gms
Raw mango: 1
Sugar: 2 tablespoons
Neem flowers: 2 tablespoons
Coconut pieces: Half cup
Banana: 1
Jaggery: 100 gms

How to prepare Ugadi Special Recipe:
Take tamrind and soak in water for about 15 minutes. Take half a liter of water in the earthen pot and mix tamrind water, chopped raw mango, sugar, neem flowers, coconut pieces, banana and jaggery to it. Allow this mixture to cool.

Very good recipe blog. We malayalees make pachadi in different style. But i know that people in karnataka and Maharashtra make pachadi and kichadi in different style
